Presentation Types

You are invited to submit using one of three presentation formats:

    1. Concurrent Oral Presentation Session: oral presentation (10 minutes plus 5-minute question time)
    2. Rapid Fire Oral Presentation: brief oral presentation (5 minutes)
    3. Poster Presentation: hard copy posters will be on display with authors in attendance at a specified day/time to discuss their research with interested delegates.

Please note:

  • Spaces for oral presentations are limited and abstracts not selected for oral presentations may be offered a poster presentation.
  • Speaker guidelines will be provided closer to the date.
  • Abstracts from students and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) are strongly encouraged..

Submission Guidelines

All submissions for oral or poster presentations must be submitted by Thursday 8 August 2024 5pm AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time). To submit your abstract, please click on the submit an abstract button on this page and follow the directions in the online abstract submission portal.

  • The Scientific Committee reserves the right to reject or return for re-submission with a strict deadline any abstract that does not comply with these guidelines.
Abstract Topic
  • For each abstract, select ONE of the listed Topics and ONE Category of basic science, translational, or clinical research.
  • Based on these selections the committee will assign reviewers with corresponding expertise to rate your abstract.

Abstract Content

Abstract Content

Abstracts should comprise the following elements entered into the submission portal in the corresponding sections.

1.  Title

  • A brief descriptive title (maximum of 12 words) in Sentence Trademarks are not permitted.

2. Authors and Affiliations

  • Institutional affiliations should include the city, state, and country. Each affiliation should be input in a separate section and will be allocated a superscript number.
  • Authors’ names and details should be entered as instructed in the portal.
  • You must also indicate who will be the presenting author.

3. Abstract

  • There is a maximum of 300 words allowed only (do not include tables, charts, and pictures). The abstract text must not exceed 300 words, excluding the abstract title and author details.
  • Text must be submitted as plain text without formatting. A limited number of symbols are available from the Special Character Keyboard.
  • Tables, graphs, and charts are NOT permitted in abstracts.
  • Abstracts should be carefully proofread and free of typographical and grammatical errors. The Scientific Committee reserves the right to correct abstracts for obvious spelling or grammatical errors without notice.
  • Standard abbreviations may be used for common terms only. Otherwise, any abbreviation should be given in brackets after the first full use of the word.
  • Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name in full is outlined in the body of the abstract.
Abstract Sections

Abstract sections

Abstracts should contain the following sections, each beginning a new paragraph:

  1. Background: Aims and objectives of the study, what the study covers, relevant background information, and an outline of how the information will be
  2. Methods: Outline how the study was carried out and how the information was
  3. Results: Present the results obtained from data gathering and the study. Results should be presented clearly, and concisely and record only the facts.
  4. Conclusion: State or summarise the main points or findings of the This is where the aims of the study are revisited. No new information should be presented in this section.

Consent to Publish Recording

Please note that by submitting your abstract and or agreeing to present, that you are consenting to your presentation being recorded and uploaded to www.luminesceallianceconference.org.au post the conference. If you do not wish your session to be uploaded (such as if contains unpublished findings) you can tick the opt out option during the submission process.

Terms and Conditions

  • All abstracts must be original work and must be related to paediatric research and one of the major topics listed under “Abstract topic”.
  • Abstracts must be submitted by the first or corresponding author and only 2 abstracts per first author can be submitted.
  • An abstract must contain sufficient information so that, if published, it will be a complete report independent of presentation.
  • The text should not contain statements alluding to results or conclusions not presented within the text.
  • Abstracts pertaining to commercial promotion of a proprietary product will not be accepted.
  • The Scientific Committee has the right of refusal to any abstract submitted at all
  • All presenting authors (maximum of two) if selected by the Scientific Committee must register and pay to attend the Conference by Friday 4 October 2024. Alternate presenters need to be approved by the Scientific Committee.
Abstract Review

Abstract Review

All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. In evaluating each abstract, reviewers will be unaware of authors or institutions involved with the work described in the abstract. The following criteria will be used when assessing the abstract:

  • Does the abstract address a relevant area related to paediatric research and the major topics listed? Is the methodology adequate and acceptable? Have the data/findings been interpreted appropriately? Are the results clearly presented? Are the conclusions supported by the presented data? Are the contents of the abstract clear and intelligible?

Abstracts on completed studies and research outcomes may be given preference in selecting the oral presentations, over abstracts that do not report results but indicate that they will be reported at the meeting or contain descriptions of trial methodology.

Notification of outcome/acceptance will be emailed to the submitting author by Friday 13 September 2024.

It is the submitting author’s responsibility to notify all other authors about the outcome of the reviewers’ decision.
Oral Presentation and Poster Display

Oral Presentation and Poster Display

From the accepted abstracts a selection will be scheduled for the concurrent oral presentation session and the rapid-fire oral presentation and poster display only.

For all accepted abstracts, further details regarding the oral presentation (PowerPoint presentation) and poster presentation (poster size, format, style and layout etc.) will be communicated to the submitting author.

If the presenting author cannot present at the time/date for the scheduled concurrent oral presentation session and the rapid-fire oral presentation an alternate can be considered. Alternate presenters need to be approved by the Scientific Committee.

No-Show Policy

Should a presenting author be absent without notice during the oral presentation sessions where the abstract is scheduled to be presented, the presentation will be cancelled.

Trademarks

Trademarks may be used in the abstract text but only in brackets and only once, i.e. the first time the product/service is mentioned. The identity of drugs/technologies described in the abstract should be disclosed using a generic name, a brief description or a reference to a public source.

Abstract Publication / Copyright

Submission of an abstract grants Luminesce Alliance permission to publish the abstract in the Luminesce Alliance 2024 Conference Online Program as well as the Luminesce Alliance websites www.luminesceallianceconference.org.au and www.luminesce.org.au. Links to the online program will be made from the Luminesce Alliance monthly newsletter, social media posts and industry publications (such as OHMR and Research Australia).

It is expected that the primary author/presenter will consult with co-authors/supervisors to provide consent for the abstract to be published. Abstract authors retain full copyright.

An abstract is a concise, standalone statement briefly summarising the essential information of a study, encompassing its purpose, methods, results, and conclusions. A well-crafted abstract serves to showcase your project, contribute to practice or education, and foster connections with fellow researchers.

Each first author may submit up to two abstracts, but the same research cannot be submitted twice, even under a different topic/category or with a different title.

No. Abstracts can be submitted only via the online abstract submission portal. Any abstract sent by email will not be accepted and automatically returned to the sender.

Abstracts will only be accepted from the first author or a designated corresponding author of the submitted abstract who has registered and agrees to attend, upon selection, the Luminesce Alliance 2024 Conference. If you fail to register to attend the conference, the selected abstract will be withdrawn.

Submitted abstracts will be blind-reviewed and selected by the Scientific Review Committee.

You will receive notification regarding the acceptance of your abstract for one of the following presentation types at the Luminesce Alliance 2024 Conference:

  • Concurrent Oral Presentation Session: oral presentation (10 minutes plus 5-minute question time)
  • Rapid Fire Oral Presentation: 5-minute brief oral presentation
  • Poster Presentation

If selected, you must register and pay for the conference to present your work either face-to-face at an assigned time for oral presentations or to discuss your research during specific day/time slots for hard copy posters. This also applies to corresponding authors wishing to attend the conference. The registration fee is non-refundable in case of non-attendance.

There is no special registration rate for abstract authors. However, students are offered a reduced registration rate.

The presenting author can be changed, please send an email to lac2024@expertevents.com.au with the abstract title/paper number, advising the change. The presenter must be part of the submitted authors’ list and be able to present and discuss all aspects of the research.

Should a presenting author be absent without notice during the oral presentation sessions where the abstract is scheduled to be presented, the presentation will be cancelled.

The content belongs to the author(s) but if the abstract is accepted, the submitter agrees on behalf of all co-authors to give Luminesce Alliance the right to reproduce and distribute the work submitted.

The submitting author needs to send an email to lac2024@expertevents.com.au with the abstract title/paper number, advising that they wish to withdraw.

All accepted abstracts will be available on the Luminesce Alliance 2024 Conference website once the program launches.

Detailed information related to your abstract presentation will be provided by email as part of your advice on the results of the selection process.

Prior to the abstract submission deadline (Thursday 1 August 2024), you can edit your abstract directly in the abstract submission portal if it is saved as a draft. Any changes to a submitted abstract must to be emailed to lac2024@expertevents.com.au prior to the abstract submission deadline, as you cannot edit directly in the portal once the status is submitted.
